Schoolzone says: ‘Moles is a delightful little piece of software, which is
as much about early mathematical language and counting skills as it is about mouse
control. The main emphasis of the program however is to break down the stages of mouse
control into small achievable steps before progressing to the next stage. The program
can easily be customised so that it fits with the needs of individual children . .
. this program fills the gap in the need for a staged approach to developing mouse
control in the Early Years ICT curriculum.’

Moles

For beginners, wait till the moles poke their heads up and just roll the mouse pointer over
them to pop them back into their holes.
Once skills have developed in controlling the action of the mouse, the user can be given the
additional task of using the mouse button to click the moles away. The double-click speed can
be adjusted to meet the child's needs.
You can then include practice in dragging and dropping as the users pick the moles out of their
holes and drop them onto handy deckchairs. Start with rolling the mouse over the moles and then
move on to clicking, dragging and dropping.
Develop speed and accuracy by trying to beat the clock and increasing the number of moles.
Up to six preset activities can be defined, easily selected by children from the pictorial front
screen menu.
